Frequently asked questions

When is my will valid?

Under German law a will is only valid if you write and sign it entirely by hand (section 2247 BGB) or make it before a notary. State the date and place. The PDF template of the app is only meant for copying and is therefore marked "VORLAGE – NICHT UNTERSCHREIBEN" (template – do not sign).

No. The app is not legal advice and does not create an advisory relationship. Especially with red notes it recommends seeking advice from a notary or a specialist lawyer for inheritance law first. Figures on inheritance tax are estimates without guarantee.

Does the app apply to residence abroad or foreign law?

No. The app is based exclusively on German law. If you live abroad, it shows a red note. The will is always created in German; in the other languages of the app there is an additional non-binding reading version.

What does the app cost?

The app is free, as are the Family and Wishes steps, the notes and the amounts. The text of the will and all PDF files are available with the full version, a one-time purchase. Client management is a separate purchase that requires the full version. There is no subscription; the App Store shows the current price.

How do I restore my purchases?

Tap the app icon at the top left and then "Unlock full version". In the purchase window choose "Restore purchases". You need to be signed in with the Apple ID you used for the purchase. Family Sharing is not available for these purchases.

Where is my information stored?

Only on your device, in the "Mein Testament" folder of the Files app. The app does not synchronise with other devices and does not use a cloud. On a new device you can unlock your purchases via "Restore purchases".

How do I delete all my data?

In the "Will" tab under "Your data", tap "Delete all data – reset app". This irrevocably deletes all answers, details, ticks and PDF files, and with client management all clients as well. Purchased unlocks are kept. Deleting the app also removes all data.

Where should I keep my will?

The safest place is official safekeeping at the local court (Amtsgericht, section 2248 BGB). The app's checklist states the costs and what to bring.
