In short
Billables does not collect any personal data for me. The app needs no account, has no server, contains no ads and no analytics or tracking services, and does not connect to the internet by itself. Your projects and entries stay on your device. I have no access to them.
Data on your device
The app stores the following in its own storage on your device:
- your projects with number, name, hourly rate, currency and entries (date, activity, duration, billable yes/no),
- your settings (for example default hourly rate, billing increment, sort order, language),
- the state of the timer,
- the status of the full version,
- your own email address, if you entered it for the billing email draft via voice input.
This data is deleted when you delete the app. It may be part of the device backup you create via iCloud or your computer; your settings and Apple’s terms apply to that. If you record client matters in Billables, they remain on your device; you are responsible for backups and files you share.
Voice input, AI and microphone
The AI input uses Apple’s on-device speech recognition and language model (Apple Intelligence). The microphone is only on while you dictate in the AI input window. The recording is converted to text on the device and is neither stored nor transmitted. The text is also analyzed on the device. The app only creates the entry after you confirm the preview.
Siri and Shortcuts
If you use Billables via Siri or the Shortcuts app, Apple processes your voice commands under its own responsibility according to your Siri and Apple Intelligence settings. Billables only receives the details for the entry, such as project, duration and activity.
Backup, breakdown, sharing and email draft
- Backup: The app saves the backup file where you choose in the file dialog, for example in iCloud Drive. When restoring, it only reads the file you select.
- Breakdown and sharing: Billables passes a breakdown as CSV or text, and the app recommendation, to the app you choose in the share menu. What happens there is up to you and that app.
- Email draft: Billing via voice input opens a draft in your mail app. Nothing is sent until you tap “Send” yourself.
Clipboard
The app only reads the clipboard when you import entries or a project from an exported text; iOS may ask for your permission. The content stays on your device.
In-app purchase
You buy the full version through the App Store. Apple handles the payment; I receive no payment data and no personal details, only the purchase confirmation sent to the app on your device.
App Store and Apple services
You use Apple’s App Store for downloads, purchases and updates. Apple processes the data required for this under its own responsibility; the Apple Privacy Policy applies. If you have agreed in your device settings to share analytics with app developers, Apple provides me with aggregated usage and crash statistics. I cannot identify individual persons from them.
Contact by email
If you write to me about the app, I process your details to answer your request (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR, otherwise (f)). The email is deleted once the request has been dealt with and no statutory retention obligations apply.
Your rights
You have the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection (Art. 15 to 21 GDPR), and the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR). As the app does not transmit any personal data to me, in practice this mainly concerns emails you send me.
