KidsCrypt

KidsCrypt lets you swap letters and digits to hide your text, just as the Roman emperor Julius Caesar ciphered his messages. If you know the key, you can read the text even without the app. The app is free, contains no ads and no purchases, and does not save any text.

How it works
- Write your text on the blackboard.
- In the settings (button at the bottom left), pick a letter on the dial as your key. It replaces the A, and all other letters are shifted accordingly.
- Press the eye: the board turns red and your text is ciphered. Press it again to show the plain text.
- Use the share button in the middle to send the text, for example via Messages or Mail.
- To decipher, clear the board with the X at the top right and paste the ciphered text with the paper clip.
Frequently asked questions
What does the <B> at the end of a ciphered text mean?
That is the key, so the recipient can decipher the text with KidsCrypt right away. If you do not want to send the key, switch on “No Key Hint” in the settings. The recipient then has to know the key or test them all.
Why does my iPhone ask for permission when I paste?
iOS asks when an app wants to read the clipboard. KidsCrypt only reads the clipboard when you tap the paper clip. With “Copy to Clipboard” switched on, the app puts the ciphered text on the clipboard automatically.
Is my text safe?
Not in the sense of real protection. Shifting letters is a game and an introduction to secret writing. It is not suitable for passwords or confidential information.
Does the app save my texts?
No. Texts are neither saved nor transmitted. The app only remembers its settings, such as the selected key.
How do I see the explanation again?
Tap the i. The info tour explains everything step by step.
